Drop-in Study Help Sessions

Students can visit The Study on Level B of the Library for face-to-face advice from Study Skills staff on understanding assessment tasks, finding information, structuring your assignments, avoiding plagiarism and referencing. These study help sessions provide a supportive environment to allow you to work on your assessment tasks and get help when you need it.

Drop-in at any time to The Study on Level B of the Library during the scheduled sessions:

  • Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri – 10:30am-3:30pm
  • Thursday – 10:30am-6:00pm

Online Study Help

The Study Help Moodle site contains a range of resources to help with assignment writing, referencing, finding resources, avoiding plagiarism, maths and statistics, and more. Visit the Study Help site for more information.

YourTutor Online Academic Support Service

Study Skills is conducting a trial of an Australian online tutoring service called YourTutor in Semester Two. The trial will evaluate its effectiveness in comparison to SmartThinking, UC’s current US-based online tutoring service. All UC students will be able to access YourTutor through a link in their Semester Two Moodle sites. YourTutor provides students with comprehensive general writing feedback 24/7, as well as live tutoring sessions in general academic skills and a select range of subjects, including economics, maths and accounting.

Online tutoring services are currently used at UC to complement existing academic support at our Bruce campus, provided by Study Skills. For more information on YourTutor, please email Study Skills or call them on (02) 6201 2205.

Study Skills for Success

Study Skills for Success is a free one day program aimed to prepare students for their studies at UC. Learning Advisors will provide strategies for study planning, writing at a university level, researching and referencing, and information about online resources. The session will be held on Saturday 19 August from 10:00am-5:00pm in The Boiler House, 14B1. All participants will receive a certificate on completion of the program. Academic Skills and Knowledge (ASK) Advisors

ASK Advisors are UC students who have been trained to help other students with understanding assessment tasks, assignment structure, referencing, and using Moodle, Mahara, printers and WiFi. They are located in the Library Commons (Building 8, Level B) at the following times:

  • Mondays to Thursdays – 8:30am-6:45pm
  • Fridays – 8:30am-6:00pm
  • Weekends and most public holidays – 1:00pm-5:00pm

ASK Advisors are also available for library help during Library Service Desk opening hours.

Peer-Assisted Learning Sessions (PALS)

PALS are weekly group study sessions run in the Student Resource Centre (SRC) in Building 6. Peer Learning Advisors share effective learning strategies and provide structured group activities specifically for large-cohort first-year units. The timetable  for Semester Two can be found on the Study Help Moodle site.

Maths and Stats Help (MASH)

The tutors at the MASH Centre in the Student Resource Centre (SRC) in Building 6 provide UC students with drop-in learning support for Mathematics and Statistics. The sessions run from Monday-Friday each week and the timetable can be found on the Study Help Moodle site.

Intensive English Course

The Study Skills Intensive English course is free for UC students and is designed to help you improve your English writing, reading, speaking and listening skills.

When: Tuesday 26 September – Friday 29 September (Semester 2, Week 8) from 10:30am-3:30pm

Where: The Student Resource Centre, 6B37
